Carnivor is a brand owned by E. & J. Gallo Winery, established in 1933 by the Gallo brothers, Ernest and Julio, in Modesto, California. The brothers learned the craft of commercial winemaking by reading old pamphlets from the basement of the Modesto Public Library. In 1966, they begin producing sparkling wines and in later years added the production of brandy, wine coolers, and super-premium wines. The winery is also committed to the environment—they introduced the "50/50 Give Back" plan (For every acre of land planted in vineyard, one acre of property would be set aside for wildlife habitat) and helped to draft and implement the Code of Sustainable Wine Growing Practices in Sonoma County.
