La Morandina Barbaresco Bricco Spessa 2003
Deep garnet red with the classic brick hues of nebbiolo. Warm and pervasive with hints of plum jam, small berries, and a touch of mint in the finish. Intense, full bodied, and well balanced between tannins and acidity with a slight aggressiveness that identifies the personality of the wine.
After a few minutes of oxidation it exerts a pervasive warmth.
100% Nebbiolo. The estate's name comes from a hill of the same name in Langhe, Italy where the Morando family has always resided since 1580. In 1988 a major part of the bordering land was purchased and at present Morandina's vineyards extend for 52 acres in the best zones for the production of various wines: Castiglione Tinellla for moscato (the heart of their production), Montegrosso and Costigliole d'Asti for barbera, and Neive for barbaresco. In this estate strict organic practices have been utilized for over 30 years. Paolo Morando supervises all work in the vineyards while his brother, Giulio, is responsible for the winemaking.
