“Viña Ijalba”
Those words had been following us around Rioja like a strange echo. Their name surfaced in nearly every cellar we went to—yet the estate remained mysterious. It didn’t take long before we gave in to temptation and scheduled a visit.
Picturesque and enchanting landscapes of the Upper Ebro give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the Spanish winery El Coto de Rioja conjures up this red wine with refinement and experience.
Bone dry, with white peach, jicama and black radish notes that zip through, cleaning and refreshing the palate as they go.
A bright core of red berry fruit flavors is enveloped by mature tannins, while spice nuances dance throughout the palate. This is an amazing value from Rueda.
Extraordinary dark cherry red color, intense violet, Mediterranean thyme and cassis aromas joined by notes of cocoa and spice. Full and intense on the palate, with ripe, velvety and elegant tannins. Flavorful and full bodied, with a characteristic, terror-imparted hint of graphite minerality.
Beautiful, opaque, dark cherry red. Concentrated fruit aroma (blueberry), revealing an unmistakable terroir-imparted mineral nuance, with toasted oak and exquisite aging aromas coming through. A serious, intense wine with great depth: dignified, concentrated, and flavorful. An excellent vintage.
Intense red-violet color. Very mineral nose with a lot of red fruit, mint and a peppermint background, very complex aromas in perfect harmony with the tertiary aromas of its long aging in the barrel.
