The 2017 “IX Estate” beams from the glass with a feeling of purpose and a sense of place. In its youth, this vintage has continually shown enhanced soil driven aromas such as iron and graphite along with the sappy wild sage that grows in the periphery of this site.
Plump, polished and multilayered, with vibrant blackberry, Christmas spice and licorice flavors that take on richness for a polished finished. Mataro, Syrah, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Grenache.
The 2015 Firebelle is their Merlot-dominated cuvée. Coming from the sandy soils called Bale Loam it’s a blend of 71% Merlot 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. This is a more tightly knit wine with loads of lack fruits mocha and coffee bean some licorice and tar.

A remarkable wine, the 2010 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select has gone from strength to strength since it was in cask. It is stunningly rich, with classic, fragrant notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, vanilla, graphite and spring flowers.
This original wine is a distinctive family blend-a hand crafted, homemade-style wine developed by our ancestors in sunny southern Italy over 100 years ago. Using Zinfandel, Alicante, and Muscat, we recreated the flavorful, fruity, full-bodied wines many Europeans enjoyed back home.
From the moment you pull the cork, the density of the wine’s aromas fill the air. The scent comes at you in waves – macerated blackberries from a warm vintage; graphite from the fine gravel and sandy soils the vines are planted in; espresso bean and clove from the new French oak barrels; and, with ample exposure to oxygen the wine begins to reveal its classic Larkmead red fruit aromas.
Medium red, a bit darker than the Coteaux Nobles. Less fruity and spicy on the nose today, with the strawberry and cherry aromas currently dominated by mocha, graphite and leather.
The Legan vineyard is a rugged own-rooted planting of Pinot Noir situated at 1,600’ above the tiny community of Coralitos. The hearty vines at Legan are surrounded by the dense Redwood forest of the Southern Santa Cruz Mountains and have been dry farmed since 1980 in deep sandy loam soil.
