The cellar in which Eric Jeanneteau raises his single wine, a beautiful red Saint-Émilion grand cru, is an unadorned building on the family estate in Saint-Étienne de Lisse. Jeanneteau varies his vinification quite a bit depending on each vintage’s conditions, and the results can be fascinating, even startling, like hearing the same symphony interpreted by different conductors. His 2015 is supple, vibrant, and alive. The cellar may be plain, but there’s a true chef d’orchestre inside.

From the moment you pull the cork, the density of the wine’s aromas fill the air. One of Rioja's most exciting white wines. Harvested from various plots of old vines planted at high-elevation in Rioja Alavesa, the grapes for this wine were picked in October (2021 was a cool year in Rioja). Showing great texture and structure at only 12.5% alcohol, this features prominent salinity and minerality; it is a bit like a gentle Chablis, but with a hint of Mediterranean herbs.

Alain Graillot stumbled upon these vineyards and the Thalvin winery while bicycling in the Zenata region of Morocco between Casablanca and Rabat. It is a beautiful area with cool winds blowing off the Atlantic and no polluting industries. The Thalvin winery has been around since the 1920s and after some discussion, a deal was reached and Thalvin provided Graillot with parcels of Syrah vines to produce Syrocco.
