A deep ruby color, the wine opens to reveal expressive aromas of juicy blackberry, boysenberry and bramble, along with notes of toasty vanilla and graham cracker. The full flavors are highlighted by a plush, velvety mouthfeel with a long finish.
This Carmenere is sourced from two section of Invina Batuco vineyard in the Maule Valley of Chile. The Carmenere grape with black fruit, herbal notes and soft tannins is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon to add a spicy red fruit characteristic, and Syrah to include notes of red licorice.
A very fresh and decidedly peppery nose features pretty notes of red berries and an elegant floral nuance. There is fine intensity and volume to the well-detailed middle weight flavors that deliver very good length on the saline-inflected finish. Good stuff that could be enjoyed young or aged for a few years to good effect.
As it should, this presently has an entirely different aromatic profile with its ripe and fresh combination of earth and sauvage characters together with both red and dark currant scents.
The generic Santenay is made from old vines – 50 years of average age – is a good start. It’s quite forward – 70% whole cluster – with a lovely organic fruit spiced with cinnamon and allspice. On the palate rich and velvet with a lavish feel for a wine at this level.
This tri-appellation Pinot Noir has grapes from Sonoma County, Monterey County, and Santa Barbara County. Bright cherry, herb and vanilla flavors jump out of the glass in this rich and supple wine. Vegan
