Parra Family Wines Pencopolitano 2014
Pedro Parra is literally a doctor of dirt. He has spent over a decade traveling the world studying vine roots and their terroir and consulting with winemakers throughout the world. Eventually he came home and found the ideal location, “the Galicia of Chile” as he calls it, to begin his own production. Granite and fine quartz soils, very rich in iron, provide great mineral to the deep red wine.
This wine is a mix of 4 different terroirs from the coastal Cauquenes and Itata regions. Soils for all the grapes are red oxidated granites. Granites quality is key (size of Quartz and iron content as well). Carignan, Malbec, Syrah and Carmenere come from Cauquenes, over medium soft slopes. Cinsault and Pais come from Guarilihue, the heart of Itata, over very steep slopes. This wine is a blend of 30% Malbec, 26% Syrah, 19% Carmenere, 10% Carignan, 9% Cinsault, 5% Pais. 1% Touriga Nacional.
