Michael David Winery Rapture Cabernet 2013
The 2013 vintage of Rapture opens up with a bright, fruit laden bouquet of sweet blackberry, blackcurrant, and subtle hints of oak. Medium bodied, the wine shows flavors of dark raspberry, spiced plum, and integrated, toasty oak notes. The wine finishes dry with a lingering, velvet-like finish. "Don't be left behind!"
The Phillips family has been farming since Andrew Harshner and his wife Lucille homesteaded 160 acres near the town of Lodi, following the Civil War in the 1860s. Originally devoted to vegetables, the Phillips' farm evolved to include many different fruits, including 15 different wine varietals that were shipped throughout the country during Prohibition with instructions on "how not to have the grapes turn into wine." These days, Michael and David Phillips represent the fifth generation of growers in Lodi with their 650 acres of premium wine grapes. Rapture represents the very best Cabernet Sauvignon by Michael David Winery. Similar to 1st growth Bordeaux, Rapture is only produced in exceptional vintage years. The grapes for this wine come from Michael Phillips' own vineyard, which is rotary fermented and aged 18 months in 100% new French-oak barrels. Meanwhile, David Phillips gave this wine its creative identity by using the biblical name Rapture. With limited production of this wine, "Don't be left behind!"
