Unlike the site specific wines of Terroir Al Limit, Terroir Històric is devoted to expressing the complex character of the whole of Priorat in two colors: white and red. While the project launched in 2015 is a remarkable incubator for new plantings from the clay and schist soils of Montsant, it is also a liquid homage, utilizing the négocient tradition of the past to secure a sustainable future.
Made from 90% Mencía, with Palomino, Doña Blanca, and Alicante Bouschet, these vines are located in several plots with an average age of at least 50 years. Vinification is 50% whole cluster fermentation and 10 months aging in clay amphorae. This a dark-fruited and savory dry red made with a touch of white grapes. Pair with a smoky chorizo.
Very pretty aromas of flowers and flower petal with hints of perfume follow through to a medium body, round yet fine tannins and a flavorful finish.
Destí is intense dark-cherry red in color with a garnet rim. Complex on the nose with aromatic notes of red fruit, especially raspberries and redcurrants, balanced by spicy tones against a backdrop of cassis. It has a balsamic taste across the palate, with hints of sloes and pomegranates. Elegant and silky, it is well balanced with sweet, rounded tannins that lead to a smooth, lingering finish.
Valbuena 5º is the purest expression of red wine at Vega Sicilia. It is aged between barrel and bottle over five years, giving rise to the wine's name. The 2018 bottling is a vertical, zingy, crystalline expression, full of nuances, with a seductive and unctuous texture.
Pintia 2019 is probably the most vertical Pintia, the most fruitful, but at the same time with a lot of plot. It came with a very silky texture that makes it easy to enjoy, but with an incredible journey.
Alión comes from carefully selected terroirs located in the very best areas of the Ribera del Duero DO region. The soils complement each other, and allied with the same winemaking process used in Vega Sicilia, they have produced wines with a firm structure.
Viña Bujanda Reserva, made of 100% Tempranillo, comes from Rioja Alta and Alavesa areas. Grapes are grown in clay and harvested during the first week of October. The wine is then fermented in stainless steel tanks for 12 days and aged in oak for 20 months before it is ready to enjoy.
A clean, bright, pretty red color, developing to maroon. Intense and highly complex aromas. Notes of stewed fruit. Sweet and warm hints from the barrel, and spicy nuances in the background (cinnamon). Nice and long on the palate.
This Rioja is medium-bodied with aromas of red cherry accented by flowers and fall leaves. On the finish, additional notes of leather and stewed red fruits lead into velvety tannins. It is not too traditional nor too modern stylistically.
Inky purple, it has an expressive bouquet of mocha/expresso, pain grille, graphite, wild blueberrys, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a full-bodied, full-flavored, plush wine with layers of spicy black fruits, is perceived its varieties complexity.
Capcanes Peraj Ha'abib is a blend of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carignan made under strict Kosher vinification rules that require oversight by a local rabbi.
Intense dark red in color with a complex nose reminiscent of black fruits, clove, black pepper and wood. Big on the palate yet soft and silky with sweet tannins and a lingering finish.
