Dark violet in hue, velvety aromas of black cherry and plum laced with espresso and toasted marshmallow fill the nose. Full bodied flavors of ripe raspberry, black licorice and clove carry the wine through its lingering, spice-laden finish.
Deep red color with black-purple hues. Aromas are vibrant and focused, with the characters continually evolving. Notes of red currants and cherries and subtle lavender, then chocolate and char, hints of creme anglaise, followed by spice, earth, and rosemary.
40% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre. Grown, produced, and bottled by Stephan Vineyards, established in 1998 by Stephan Asseo. Features tea and tobacco leaf, garrigue, and jambon in the nose, as well as blueberries and pencil shavings.
Deep ruby red in color with garnet highlights, this red blend has aromas of dark berry fruits and black plums complemented by undertones of sweet spices and vanilla. On the palate, the structure is enhanced by finely grained tannins to make an rich, full-bodied wine.
A nearly opaque color sets in the glass with a hard, red complexion that is almost black. Aromas of ripe blueberries and candied plum mingle with toasted oak and charred vanilla. The entry is soft and inviting which paves the way for a lush mid-palate replete with layers of ripe boysenberry and cassis.
For those who know northern Rhônes, this could only be from Côte Rôtie—not Hermitage, not Saint Joseph, Cornas, or Crozes. The moment the bouquet rises from the glass, you are in the extreme northern part of the Rhône Valley, on the way to Burgundy.
