The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru matures in around 50% new oak has a well-defined bouquet with scents of Earl Grey infusing the dark berry fruit (darker than Rossignol-Trapet’s Premier Crus for example.) The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry slightly tertiary in style with subtle torrefaction notes but well balanced with impressive substance on the finish a tingle of white pepper on the aftertaste. Barajuela is a type of albariza soil which is chalk-based and white and uniquely from the Jerez region. This is not a fortified sherry though and is rather a vintage Palomino Fino (aged with flor) and made in a fashion the preceded the Solera system of aging that dominates Sherry production today. The 2015 Firebelle is their Merlot-dominated cuvée. Coming from the sandy soils called Bale Loam it’s a blend of 71% Merlot 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. This is a more tightly knit wine with loads of lack fruits mocha and coffee bean some licorice and tar. It is deep rich and promising with a huge upside.
